He holds a degree in Chemistry from the University of São Paulo – USP (1995), a Master's degree in Chemistry from the University of São Paulo (1998) and a PhD in Sciences from the State University of Campinas - UNICAMP (2002).

He completed a doctoral internship (sandwich) at the Department of Materials Engineering and Industrial Technology at the University of Trento - Italy, in collaboration with Prof. Gian Domenico Sorarù, in 2000. He developed a research project in the area of innovative ceramic materials derived from polysiloxanes and polysilazanes.

He was Visiting Professor at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry - University of Arkansas - USA, in the Visiting Professor Program in the United States (CAPES/Fulbright), in 2009. He developed a research project, in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Xiaogang Peng, involving the synthesis and characterization of colloidal nanocrystalline semiconductors in the II-VI system, doped with transition metals.

He was a Visiting Researcher at the Institut Nanosciences et Cryogenie, CEA Grenoble – France, in July/August 2011, in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Peter Reiss, in a project involving the Application of Water-Soluble Colloidal Nanocrystalline Semiconductors of CdTe as sensitizers in ZnO nanowires for application in solar cells.

He was Visiting Professor at the Radiation Laboratory of the University of Notre Dame - South Bend - Indiana, USA, in January/February 2015, in collaboration with Prof. Prashant V. Kamat. The Project involved the preparation of Solar Cells sensitized with Quantum Dots and Peroviskites and was supported by CNPq and FAPEMIG.

In 2016, he held a Post-doctorate at the Laboratory of Nanotechnology and Solar Energy - LNES at the Institute of Chemistry - UNICAMP, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ana Flavia Nogueira.

He is currently Full Professor at the Federal University of São João del-Rei. He has experience in Chemistry, with emphasis on Inorganic and Materials Chemistry, working mainly on the following subjects: Synthesis, characterization of colloidal nanocrystalline semiconductors, carbon dots and Perovskite nanocrystals, as well as applications of these nanomaterials in energy conversion systems such as Solar cells, photoelectrochemical reactions and photocatalysis.
